Prem Rawat's Teaching about Holy Name, the 3rd Technique - In His Own Words
The 3rd technique of the meditation methods Prem Rawat teaches is Holy Name, or the Word. This is the basis of Rawat's Knowledge, he claims that once he teaches you that concentrating on your breath is the method then through this technique you can experience the energy within inside each living thing that is keeping you alive which is the primordial vibration, the power that creates and sustains the universe. It is the source of every breath we take, it is the life that God breathes into man, and the spirit that all religions speak of. This Holy Name (shabd, satnam, Ram Nam) or Word (logos) was there before time began as recorded in the Gospel of John and it is the source of everything according to Prem Rawat. Rawat's father and previous Perfect Master also preached about the Holy Name on innumerable occasions. It's easy to understand why new recruits have been hard to find once Rawat change the name from "Holy Name" to "Third Technique".
- 1. Do not put off until tomorrow what you can do today
- 2. Constantly meditate and remember Holy Name
- 3. Leave no room for doubt in your mind
- 4. Always have faith in God
- 5. Never delay in attending Satsang
Shri Maharaj Ji, Delhi, India, August 7 1952
… can any professors or teachers tell you how to use the rosary of the mind? It is comprised of the Mahamantra, which is "the Name which has neither beginning nor ending."
Nobody can attain liberation without knowing the true and Holy Name. …
St. Kabir says that whatever is done without the guidance of Guru, goes astray. …
Guru Nanak writes, in the Granth Saheb that nobody should be mistaken, because one cannot get liberation without a Guru. All the prophets, Guru Nanak, St. Tulsidas, Lord Jesus
Christ, Lord Krishna preached about the Holy Name and Divine Light and told the public that this is the only way of getting peace and happiness. It cannot be attained by any other means. One can get relief from miseries by
meditation and attain happiness. Ultimately he can attain God's Light. So the Name is the only way to lead one to liberation. …
But all saints have remembered the Name. All saints and Vedas speak with one voice, that you should have love for the Holy Name. So the best act is to meditate on the Holy Name. By the Holy Name, your body will become
fruitful, your spirit will be pleased, you will be free from the cycle of regeneration, and you will get liberation. You cannot get such a fate by reading scriptures. When you will remember the Name and meditate on the
Divine Light while alive, you will merge with it after death.

Know the real Name of God. Concentrate your mind on it and remember it constantly, irrespective of your faith which may be Christianity, Islam, Sikh or Jain.
The Name which can be remembered during both sleep and dream should be known and meditated upon. A being remembers the same Name in the womb of the mother but forgets it on taking birth.
About the same Name it is said in the Gita, chapter 8, verse 7, "Remember Me at all times and fight." Nobody can say that he cannot meditate. The Name pervades in everybody's heart.
Hanuman showed by opening his heart that it pervades throughout the body. But until one meets the Perfect Master who imparts the Knowledge of that Name, which exists in the heart,
it cannot be known. The Name is beyond the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. It is beyond expression.

Mohammed would have been asked what was his religion by the people of his time. Do you think that he would have replied that his religion was Islam? Likewise, people would have asked Jesus Christ about his religion and do
you think that he would have named Christianity as his religion? Would Lord Buddha have said that his religion was Buddhism? What is that religion which they all followed themselves and which they spread for the sake of all
mankind? … In fact, we all are sons and daughters of one
and the same Almighty Father. We should love, respect and serve each other. You know that Jesus Christ imparted the knowledge of Divine Light and Holy Name. He also healed sick people, gave bread to hungry people and money
to poor people. Today people believe in Jesus Christ, they spread Christianity but they do not know the Knowledge which he imparted to his disciples.

Since Divine Light is seen within and the Holy Name is known within, their realization gives a person complete understanding, of the source of life itself. The entire universe emanates from this source and so by knowing
that all is known. The result is constant and unchanging peace and happiness and the deathless state of self-realization achieved. It is the time that world leaders try to spread this Knowledge if they really wish for
peace. The individual should concentrate his mind if he wants to achieve the highest aim in life. This is the only way to integral peace and happiness.

Shri Hans Ji Maharaj (Prem Rawat's Father) The Essence Of Life Is Rembering Holy Name (shabd)
Kabir sumiran saar hai, aur sakal janjal. Simran - Remembrance of Holy Name is the essence of human life.
I am of the opinion that remembrance of the Holy Name of God and meditation on the Divine Light only will do you good.
So, everyone should take advantage of the opportunity of this human life by acquiring the knowledge of Holy Name and Divine Light.
This is the religion for all mankind. This is the Light, which is beyond moon and sun and this is the true and easy method to concentrate the mind. The purpose of human life is to acquire the highest peace, that is, salvation. God is truth, consciousness and bliss and is one and the same for all. So there can be only one religion or one path for all mankind.

that we should bow at the feet of saints. This is not written for elephants and animals. Go to the Spiritual Master, prostrate to him and ask.
Then he will impart the knowledge of the Name which is indivisible and which redeems us from the cycle of birth and death.

Only the remembrance of the Holy Name of God can relieve you from all these miseries. All of the worldly attainments will be left here. For instance, the people who crossed over to India from Pakistan had to leave all their
possessions behind; similarly, at the time of leaving the world, everything will have to be left here. The refugees remembered God while escaping from Pakistan; had they continued to remember Him with the same enthusiasm
they could have been relieved of all sorts of miseries. But being engrossed in worldly comforts, they have again forgotten God. So they will have to suffer miseries again. Everybody remembers God while he is in
distress, but nobody remembers Him in prosperity. If one would remember Him in prosperity, there would be no need to face distress.

The Real Name of God is also ever-existent and self-dependent in all living beings. It is the only life generator. The difference between a living body and a dead body is the presence and absence respectively of the Holy
Name. The Holy Name cannot be written in any alphabet nor can it be uttered. It is the eternal and secret sound of a vibration which has to be known, and just as fire has the inherent capacity to burn, so the Holy Name
has the inherent capacity to purify the mind. Hence it changes a man's nature, making him pure and shining with bliss.

But look at this world. Is this world dying for Guru Maharaj Ji? But we're not together enough for Maharaj Ji to really manifest in this world. Because we're not ready. We're holding him back. He's having to wait for us. For each one of us.
One time in Malibu, Maharaj Ji said, "If I just had a handful, if I just had a handful of premies who were really dedicated, who really had faith in me, I could spread this Knowledge. I could spread this Knowledge so fast. If I just had a handful."
You know, I feel like we're wasting time. Wasting time. And it's not our time to waste. We waste it like crazy. Every second that we spend that's not in Holy Name is wasted and we'll never get it back. Never. And we know that. And we know that feeling of wasting time. Can't stand to waste time. And that's why we're so jumpy and that's why we're so edgy.

I want to ask the Pandits, these hypocrites, if they chant mantras while asleep. Guru Maharaj Ji has revealed to us the Holy Name, that is like air inside and outside of us. Now, Guru Maharaj Ji has dissolved himself in
the air. That Word, that Name disappears in the air and you bring that air into you when you breathe, waking or sleeping. …
All seers, all saints, all Masters have gotten peace by meditating upon the Holy Name. But I want to
ask the people of today why they do not want to worship God. It does not cost even a penny.
We have nothing else to know but one thing. Sit in a peaceful place and do meditation. Eat and meditate and listen to satsang. You cannot meditate when on one side the child is calling to you, "Mother, mother!" So we
should do meditation in a quiet place. You can get peace only through meditation. … So brothers, my meaning is that the Name which Guru Maharaj Ji has revealed to you should be meditated upon.

Know Him, Know His Name. Even though God is One He pervades everywhere. So what is His real form? If you want to know His true Name and want to see His true form,
then take refuge in Guru Maharaj Ji. When you have this Knowledge, you will not need to know anything else. You will know why this human body has been given to you.
… Those who seek God will have to go to someone who already knows the true Name of God. So, leave your arrogance and indignation behind. …
And all the premies should practice meditation. Guru Nanak said, "Meditate upon the Holy Name yourself, and inspire others to meditate also. In this way, you will definitely attain liberation."

Okay. But then we have to ask, "How will this ego, this pride, ever be removed?" And for that there is Knowledge. There is that Name of God within inside of every human being. Maybe some people say that the Holy Name is found in scriptures or books. But then if that were true, why do they still need to go ahead and build statues in temples? Why aren't they satisfied with the paper book? And those stone statues are the result of ignorance. It's because of ignorance that this world has become lost; it's because of ignorance that this world has forgotten its purpose.

So, dear premies, we Indians have a duty and that duty is to forget that self-esteem which makes you lazy and to destroy those things that separate you from God. Only accept that which is of God, which
is one with the Name of God, and from which every ray of the Light of God comes. Accept that and show the Western world that in this degrading age, we are the same Indians as before. The Lord, Guru Maharaj Ji, has brought
the same Grace with Him that He brought for us before, and if you are not receiving it then come to me. … Soon I will leave my studies and spread the Holy Word of Guru Maharaj Ji throughout the world. How will the world not receive it? To every single child, I will reveal this Name.
I will give you such a thing, such a Name, that you have never received before in your life. But come to me. Why do you hesitate?
… So devote yourself wholeheartedly, sacrifice your life to propagate this Name. You can serve the world afterwards, you
can fill this stomach eating and drinking later, but if you sacrifice yourself now for the devotion of God, I say that people will spread out golden carpets for you.
It is time to awake and know the Word about which it is said, "The Word is the earth. The Word is the sky. There is but the Word; and all is enlightenment.
The whole universe is based on the Word. Nanak says the Word is in every heart.

Everybody wants perfect peace. A man who wants to realize that Holy Name, he will have to need a teacher for it, otherwise he can't hear it. …
And this Knowledge is so Holy, so Perfect that one spark that comes out of this Knowledge is so perfect, so, so perfect, wherever it goes it hits,
it makes it perfect and wherever it goes, again hits, it makes it perfect. Wherever just one spark of this Knowledge shines up, absolutely perfect. So that Knowledge I'm, I've got it here." …

But when Ram came … do you know who Ram is? Ram? No. He was a saint. He was an avatar, an incarnation of his time. He came and after all, he became a king. The whole Ramayana is about him. He is a king and he doesn't say to people, "This is my order, that you all have to receive the Knowledge that I give." He never says that. He says, "I humbly tell you that there is a sacred Name of God that has been made for you." Not like, "No, this is my order! Don't do that, don't do that, don't do that."

He has got a aim in his life which he has to complete. And once he has completed his aim, he's a perfect man, perfect and what is this aim? This aim is to realize the Holy Word of God. If you take Bible it is written "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." If you take the Guru Granth Sahib, it is written , "[Hindi Quotation which includes 'Shabd', 'Prakash', 'Nam'] There is a Word. Due to that Word sky, earth, sun, moon, everything exists, and this Word is in ourself." And then you take Koran, and in Koran it is written "Pak Nam," "Holy Name." What is that Holy Name? You take Gita it is written, "[Hindi Quotation which includes 'Shabd'] a Word which cannot be described, which cannot be spoken by mouth." Just because this mouth is imperfect. This mouth is not capable. This mou-mouth is not perfect enough to pronounce that Name. So this Word cannot be spoken. Otherwise I would have been glad to speak this Word in front of everybody, in television, in radios, in movies, you know, just in everything, but it cannot be spoken.

When they met Satguru, in a matter of only a couple of hours they got that God whom they never got for forty years. It was completed, it was done, it was finished; it was perfect in a couple of hours only.
So that is why there is a great, great need for Satguru to be in this world spreading the Holy Word of God. There it is written; Satguru is the bestower of Divine Light and practical knowledge of Holy Name. He bestows it, He gives it openheartedly. Here you may see His kindness, here you may realize His kindness, how kind He is towards the human being. Man, who has been performing sins throughout his life - since he was created - he had been performing sin and he was guilty of himself. Right? And for every sin he was doing, so many miles he was being separated from God. How kind Satguru is that in a matter of hours He removed all the sin and brought us to God. Just He revealed to us what God is.

In the same way this knowledge frequently moves and it should frequently be meditated upon. That is the proper utilization of this
knowledge, of this Name. Now, this Name. I am going to tell you something about this knowledge, or this Name. This Name is the most ancient
thing. It has been described in all the scriptures, and whenever we define it by our tongue, by worldly words, we define
it as "energy," because energy is the only thing which cannot be created and cannot be destroyed.
This knowledge is the perfect and the pure energy, and thus, with it every human being, every living thing is alive. …
When we have to solve the problem, we place it under the other computer which will solve the problem. This computer
is placed under memory, and again memory is placed under satguru. Again Satguru has many types of computers which
can cure that machinery of that defect. By the help of this knowledge, of this pure Name of God, the holy Name of God,
surely and certainly he will be able to cure us. Not only us, but he has cured thousands and thousands through this
Name, through this Knowledge.

Every Master has said that people should know the Holy Name. They advise everybody to become wise and to recognize how precious their life is. And that's what I am trying to make this world understand.
… It is said in the Vedas, the Indian scriptures, that when the dark age comes the only thing that can save man is constant meditation on the Holy Name.
It is said in the Vedas, the Indian scriptures, that when the dark age comes the only thing that can save man is constant meditation on the Holy Name. So we are so lucky to know that holy Word and to have got it at a
discount. I am prepared to reveal this Knowledge at any time so it is up to you to take this golden opportunity. If you don't seem to make progress with this Knowledge do not blame Guru Maharaj Ji. You have it in your power to conquer the egos and doubts in the mind. These are the thorns, but the Knowledge is the rose.

So now I guess it's just about time when we'd better get ready and understand this Knowledge, and I mean we'd better, you know! Really, we'd better! Because if not,
then I just don't have to tell you what's going to happen next: you know it. Be frank, face up to it. Be frank with yourself and face up to it.
I'm not asking you to give up your religions or anything. I am telling you one thing: understand this Knowledge. It's fantastic, it's beautiful. And no matter what way I try to tell you,
it's still going to come out at the same point. Because this Word, this perfect Word, has been described, this perfect harmony has been described, in the Bible:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." It's been spoken of in the Ramayana also as Nam. In the Gita it's been spoken of as Shabd, as the Word.
In the Koran it's been called Pak Nam And it all just means Holy Name, the Word, the Perfect Word.
But what is that Perfect Word? It's not words, it's not w-o-r-d-s. It's w-o-r-d, it's a word. …
they did not describe the Word where they were supposed to describe it, I think that was pretty inconsiderate of them. Because they should have said it clearly right out there, "In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God," and whatever the Word was, that's it: They should have written it.
So what is that Word? I can reveal to you that Word practically within inside of yourself. I am not going to argue with you about this thing, because I am talking about something. that I know. A car has four tyres, I
know it because I can see that car running on four tyres.

Q: Maharaj Ji, so many times a day I remember Holy Name for five minutes, and then forget it for an hour, and then
remember it, and then forget and remember. How can I develop more consistency?
M: Just by doing more and more meditation. Because, if that is even happening, you know at least that you are remembering
for a minute. You understand? And then slowly and slowly it's going to go for two, three, forty, sixty, and day and night

how many people understand this, out of Ramayana, where Tulsidas says, means, the whole story is about Ram; how fantastic He was, how beautiful He was, what He
did in His life. And doing all this, praising Ram so highly - all the miracles, all the things - why does he say that, "Till which extent should I sing the glory of this Holy Name? Even Lord
Ram Himself cannot sing the glory of this Holy Name." I said, "How many people read that daily?" I tell you, there are thousands and thousands of people. But, they never try to realize that Word. They never try to realize that Holy Name. See?
Lord Ram, when He went back to His Kingdom, and He was standing like this before everybody, all His citizens there, and He says that, "Before everybody, with my closed hands like this, I
pray to everybody that; understand that holy secret, understand that Holy Word. … So after all, which is that common factor which is one, to which even Lord Ram respects, and to which even Lord Shankar
respects. What is that? And that is this Holy Name. And when we understand this Holy Name - by whose Grace? By Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace. … He is away from our concepts, away from our explanations, away from our emotional explanations, away from all these three types of chains that every human being is tied
in. To such Guru Maharaj Ji, I bow my head. And that is that thing that Guru Maharaj Ji reveals. Why? Because that is His duty - that is His Name, that is His quality, who comes here to reveal us this Holy Name.

People who just like to read story books and happen to pick up a scripture and start reading it only for that, they won't be confused. But a person who is sincerely seeking
Knowledge of God, of Truth, he will certainly be confused. Because the build-up is correct, it's truthful, but where does it go? Where does it last? There is all this Knowledge,
Knowledge, Knowledge … Word, Word, Word, Holy Word, Holy Breath, holy this and holy that … but where is it? It's just not there, not in words.

And this Knowledge is so wonderful. Because you can be eating, you can be driving, you can be sleeping - I mean, that sounds a little peculiar but you can be sleeping - and still meditate on this Name.
It's so fantastic. I mean, people talk about concentration. And for reasons such as driving race cars their concentration should be completely straight. (I'll tell you one thing.
There is one car that has been given to me by a premie in Boston. It's a real fast car. And it really needs good concentration.) But when you start meditating on this Knowledge,
you could be going a hundred miles an hour in rush hour without hitting a car. It's so good. It's so beautiful. But then there's the crazy mind.

We are even punished with that and now premies it's like exactly that's the same situation when somebody comes along and says "Listen, I can give you that water, I can drill a hole for you right here at this water is like, it's gonna be beautiful and the people say "You don't have to bother about tha-a-a-at. You know we got all this water and we got this and we got this" (uses ignorant voice) but premies it comes to a point where even that stops working so this real Holy Name, this real truth, you know that we are going to give to this world, that we intend to give to this world is like to, to people that think about it, you know it's like thinking about 1975 models and sometimes they quite don't understand why not, you know why isn't that particular model that they thought would be the most streamlined and so beautiful and will have a compact V-8 engine in it and this and that doesn't live up to their expectations but because this they have it they just keep dreaming and keep dreaming and keep dreaming and keep dreaming and then things don't live up to their expectations and they think how this world is right now.

This is Kali Yuga. People say it is a very bad age. In fact, there is no other age like this one. This is the age that is said to exist only by the power of Holy Name. Can you imagine that, can you imagine the glory of an age that exists only by the power of the Holy Name? Have you ever even thought about it? People talk about Sat Yuga, Dwapara, and Treta. But it has been written that this age exists only by the power of Holy Name. Do you know how powerful the Holy Name is? Have you ever thought about how powerful it is? And that's what this age depends upon.
That's why in this age we can do something that has never been done before, and which they will never be able to do again. That's why I say, wake up, listen carefully, and try to understand. Get ready now. Get yourselves together.

But we never understand how very fortunate the Kaliyuga is. Of course, nobody directly praises the Kaliyuga. But in this Kaliyuga, the Lord will incarnate with full power. Whoever he will be! That's the other
question. For this Kaliyuga, it's said that Kaliyuga is based on the Holy Name. By remembering the Holy Name, a man can cross the ocean of suffering and misery.

If I had Aladdin's lamp, I would not go begging for things, but this Knowledge is more than Aladdin's lamp. This Knowledge cannot be described. Many great saints could not describe it. Saint Tulsidas said,
"How can I sing the glory of the Holy Name? Even Lord Rama could not sing the glory of that Holy Name." My duty is to tell you about this Knowledge and my request is that you should
receive this Knowledge and see what I am offering to all the people. There are more than six million people who have received this Knowledge.

But in this Kaliyuga, only by meditating on the Holy Name can we cross the ocean of confusion and suffering. …
How much can I sing the glory of this Holy Name? Saint Tulsidas said that even Lord Ram could not sing the glory of this Holy Name. When there wasn't any language, still this Knowledge was there. For example, you see this microphone. And you also have a language with which you are able to describe this microphone. But the glory of this Knowledge is beyond description.
The Holy Name is the only real boat which can take you from this shore to the other shore. So if you want to cross the ocean you must have this Holy Name.

If I want, today I can give my initiators the agya not to give Knowledge to anybody unless I permit it. But I don't do that. I say, "Go ahead. Give Knowledge to the people you think
are okay. Go ahead, give Knowledge. Spread it. Spread this Holy Word so that every person can understand the theme of 'Jai Satchitanand,' can spread the meaning of 'Jai Satchitanand.' "

Just try to concentrate. After a little while, all those ideas will be brushed out of you and you'll really, really become one with that Word. Then you just get into that flow of meditation. But if you sit there and try to fight it, then you waste your time.
Again, mind knows that it can be brushed out just like that. Once you are really in the rhythm of meditation, you can almost feel your mind trying to get you. You can almost feel it trying to pamper the ideas into you, putting thoughts into you
… And the difference is, if you want to know consciously, "I am doing meditation, I am doing meditation, I am one with God, I am one with God," then you won't be one with God.
You will be one with something else. See, those things are so tricky because they sort of look like they come on at the same angle, but they don't; they are quite a bit different.
We can always be in that Holy Word. And if we are one with that Holy Word, why would we want that to pause and another idea to come in telling us constantly that we are one with God
or one with that omnipresent power? It's just that, when that happens, we know it. We know it.
Divine Times, Volume 5, Number 5, June 1976

And, dear premies, that is exactly the reason, the same exact reason that is making the world go cockabunga today. Completely, because it's people's minds. It's the
absence, not the presence of anything, but it is the absence of everything. Because people don't understand, people do not know, and this is the work of Guru Maharaj Ji, and all of his devotees, all of his premies, to come together in this thread of love and understanding for themselves, their true identity, and make people realize their true identity, the common thing that is between all of us that we commonly share. It is not a big thing, it is not a big maglollis, it is very simple, it's very beautiful, the Holy Name, the unspoken name, the name of all names. The name that doesn't fall in the category of noun, verb, adjective, what have you.
Because it is the presence, and everything that we think is reality, is the absence of that great presence. I hope you understand what I just said because it's something that takes time, and maybe needs repeating it again and again and again, because what we think is reality I think is the absence. And so, to find out who we really are we have to find the presence. And once we have found the presence, then the reality of this world becomes absence to us. And that is when our heart sings, that is when we experience the love, the beauty and the sunshine for the rest of our lives. It's very simple. It isn't a big thing. What we are trying to accomplish is just to tell people their name, that's all we are trying to do. Just to bring people back home, where they belong.

So what it boils down to, premies, is that in our lives, when we understand what satsang is,
what service is, what meditation is, and when we experience those experiences, you can't just
take off and do your thing. I mean you can do your thing to a certain extent, and that certain
extent is only where you have made and given complete priority to the Knowledge -- first …
not second, not third, not A, not B - the first priority, when you have clearly seen that there
are no ands, ifs, and buts about this whole thing, and that you're there for one purpose, and
it's to serve your Guru Maharaj Ji, and it's just to meditate on that Holy Name, and it's just to
understand what this life is all about.

Because premies, this is only a three-day program. Hans Jayanti is going to be a seven-day program and then maybe very soon, maybe even as soon as next year, by Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace if everything goes okay, maybe we will have our land. …
And then maybe someday on this land, we'll have a two-week, or one-month Hans Jayanti (a few premies applaud). These are all possibilities, you know. You heard all those claps? Those were the unemployed people!
But anyway, whatever happens, we have to be always focused; we have to be always in that Holy Name. Because if we are not in that Holy Name, then where will we be? We'll be lost. And we never can take that chance to be lost. We never can. Because the thing is, first of all, it's very easy to get lost.

One time I was talking to this priest and we started talking about the Holy Word. And I said, "What is the Holy Word? What do you think is the Holy Word?"
And he said, "The Holy Word is the Bible." I said, "On top of every Bible it says, 'The Bible', so once you've read the Holy Word, what do you want to read the Bible for?
What's the necessity, you've just read the Holy Word. That's it, the Divine Word, why do you want to go fumbling through the pages?"

So Guru Maharaj Ji says, "Here. This is the medicine of the Holy Word. This is the medicine of the Holy Name. This is the medicine of the Holy Knowledge. You can, in fact, get rid of that mucus, get rid of that mind."

Guru Maharaj Ji says, "Look. There's only one thing that is true in this world, there's only one thing that is real in this world." This one saint says that wherever you can see, it's all maya, it's all illusion. That's it.
It's all illusion. And what is really real in this world is that Holy Name, is Guru Maharaj Ji.
There is one song that goes "Without Guru Maharaj Ji, nobody is going to find the path." And it just becomes so obvious in our lives that, yes, we are made to be dependent on somebody, on that perfectness. We have to rely
on that perfectness. We have to be a beggar. And we have to be the "most humblest" beggar. Not just a beggar, but the "most humblest" beggar. Because everybody is a beggar. There is this one poem by Tulsidas. It
goes, "In this world, you should do two things. Accept Holy Name and give peace." And that's what you have to do. You have to be a beggar. And to understand that, and to beg from your heart. Because what else can you do?

Because why has that Power been described as, "You are my mother; you are my father"? Because it helps us. It guides us. It supports us, teaches us, brings us up in that love, in that joy, in that faith. Me, I'm going
to always, in my life … You know, there is a feeling of salvation. There is a feeling of liberation. There is even a feeling that, "Maybe someday I'll become just like a lawyer, where you go to school, you study and then you quit. That's it." No. I'm going to always need my teacher. I'm going to always need my Guru Maharaj Ji. I'm always going to need that Power who'll always be filling my heart with love. In Him, in His Feet, I'll find my salvation, find my liberation. What is liberation - to be liberated, to be freed? And as it says, "Who else has the Holy Name to free me from maya? Who else loves the weary and the weak? Where shall I go, leaving your Lotus Feet? Where would I go?" Because that's it.

If somebody would have told Gurucharanand "One day you're gonna be playing golf" that's before he left for India he would have said "What's that?" "Mahatma Ji it's a game, take a little ball and ha ha I can see this, I can see this one. You take a little ball and to put it on a wooden peg and you put it on the floor, on the ground and you have this metal rod you know this iron, it's called a club, and you stand there and you wiggle a little bit and you waggle a little bit and you hit this ball and it goes flying and you're supposed to put it in a hole way on the other side." If somebody would have said that to him then in India I know what he would've said. "My dear friend, I have something better happening inside of me. You have something better happening inside of you." "No no Mahatma Ji you're going to play this game." "I am already playing it." Okay you know in those days, in those days philosophy was really cheap, all you had to make was a little comment and you got a year full of it. These days it's a little harder to come by but it's there. "Mahatma Ji, when you go to the West one day you will be playing tennis." "What is that?" " Mahatma Ji you take a ball." The question would be, "Do all Westerners play with balls? Big balls, little balls." "Mahatma Ji you would take this ball and you would hit it and the idea is to keep making the balls go back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth." "Oh, that's what I do with this Name." So already there is a tennis inside of me but someday you know somebody says that's what you're gonna do sure it's I I can almost guarantee you that's what the answer would have been to yeah one day that's what's going to happen. No no! Yes yes! Now from what I understand he's a very avid player of golf, tennis. What's next? I don't know, well at that point you start inventing games you know and to me it's no different you know one time I couldn't understand, I couldn't grasp the concept of two adults may trying to make a ball going between them, it just, it was like, just is ludicrous but then I bought a house and it had a tennis court and it was like well I paid for it so I may as well try learning it

One thing more. I have nothing to do with these saffron clothes. All I want is prachar (propagation), you know? If the prachar is possible in saffron clothes, well and good. We will
provide saffron clothes. If it has to be in suit-boots then we will utilize suit-boots. Because we belong to a peculiar category:
We are traders of True Name.
Someone may stock bronze and brass,
Or they may deal in cloves and betels
But our commodity is the name of the Lord
That's why our stock is most perfect.
So, we deal in such a commodity that we always earn a lot of profit. And what is that profit? The profit of true Knowledge.

One of the most popular songs in Divine Light Mission in the early 1980's was:
Downpour of the Holy Name adapted from a poem attributed to Kabir
Chorus:
With the downpour of the Holy Name
The Divine Colors began to rain;
Began to rain, began to rain,
Began to rain, began to rain,
With the downpour of the Holy Name
The Divine Colors began to rain.
The problems of birth and death disappear
When the longing for Holy Name appears;
My Satguru gave me the sign,
I have found my true home again.
True home again, true home again,
True home again, true home again.
