Prem Rawat in Buenos Aires 2012-08-30
Mr Prem Rawat often speaks of change in his speeches. For Prem Rawat, people are either resisting change, having difficulty coping or hoping for it. People who are content and happy, as they are, are useless to Mr Rawat and he always ignores the possibility of peaceful people in his spiel. The chances of attracting them into his coterie of donatees is very small, too small to make the effort. His success rate in holding on to newly initiated people who have passed through the long indoctrination process is very poor.
Good News - Day One
Prem Rawat in Buenos Aires, 30th August 2012
People are understanding something, having peace in their lives, and you can be a part of the magic regardless of where you are.
This is the second last event of the southern part of the South American tour. And what I have come to talk to you about is something very, very simple. But it has something to do with you, not your ideas, not your beliefs, not your concepts, but something to do with who you are. And this morning, I was writing something. I'm working on this project, and it's coming along very beautifully, but I was writing something. I was writing an outline, and then I record it on a video. I have a little camera set up. So I was doing that, and the topic was simplicity. So I sat down, and I've been doing just about one every morning. So I come in, and I write the outline, then I look at it, and then if I like it, I go shoot it. And all of a sudden, I realize how complicated it was to write about simplicity. It just wasn't making any sense. It's like, here I am, I want to write about simplicity. What do you write about simplicity? What can you say about simplicity? And then after a little while, I went and got another cup of coffee, and I'm sitting there going, hmm, this is challenging. And then I said, you know, it's not because it is difficult to write about simplicity, but before you can begin to even talk about simplicity, you have to be simple. And then I sat down, and it was not a problem. And one of the things, and that's what I'd like to talk about a little bit, because it has so much to do with the self, with who you are, that if you try to remove darkness, I'm not talking about any special kind of darkness, just darkness, you know, when the light is not lit, just darkness. So I'm not talking about any spiritual darkness, I'm just talking about luminance darkness. That if you try to remove the darkness without light, it won't be simple. In fact, it'll be impossible. But as soon as you light the lamp, as soon as you turn on the light, the darkness will go away all by itself. Trying to bring peace in this world without peace is impossible. So all you are trying to do, everybody in this world, all they're trying to do is bring the environment, the symptoms, the signs of peace.
And trying to do that without peace is impossible. Just like you cannot try to remove the darkness without light, you cannot have peace without peace. So where is peace? I mean, when I say the word peace, doesn't world peace automatically come in? Automatically, because you're programmed. You have programmed yourself. You have listened to this word, world peace, world peace, world peace, world peace, world peace, world peace, world peace, world peace, so many times, you're starting to believe it. But you haven't thought about it. How is there going to be peace in this world without peace? So we want to bring the absence of wars. We want to stop people from fighting with each other. We want to have calmer countries, calmer communities, calmer places. These are just symptoms. Without peace, none of this is going to ever happen. Cannot happen. So this brings us back to the question of where is peace? So then, amazingly enough, it brings us back to the issue of who are you? Who are you? Who are you? If I say to you that peace is within you, what does that do to you? I mean, what does that do to you? I know there are people here who go, I have heard that before. What has that got to do with anything? You go to a restaurant, you sit down, the waiter comes, looks at you, what do you want? And you say, can I see the menu? And the waiter says, why? Why do you want to see the menu? I want to order some food. Why do you want to order food? I'm hungry, I want to eat something. You've eaten before. It's obvious you have eaten before. I can see that. So, I have heard this before. It really doesn't make any sense. Because if you have heard it before, then did you realize that the contentment, the joy, the love, the understanding, the clarity, the simplicity, the divine is also inside of you? Oh, I have heard this before. So, what? If somebody says to you, the divine is inside of you, how should you react? Excuse me, we're not talking about Mr. and Mrs. Divine. We're not talking about the little divine. We're talking about the divine.
If there is a reality, then there is no greater reality than the divine that exists inside of you. People go, yes, yes. Yes, the divine is all within all of us. Excuse me, is that how you should be reacting? How do people react when they win $10? All right, 20 pesos. How do they react? How do they react? Wow! I won! Wow! Look, look, look, look, look, look, I won! The one-time coffee. Maybe one measly sandwich. This makes you excited. And the fact that the divine is inside of you, yes, yes. Bueno, bueno, that's it. That should be the most exciting news you have heard in your whole life. Wow! The divine is inside of me. And if you know divine is inside of you and somebody says divine is inside of you, you should go thank you for reminding me again. You know, you go to a party and you're dressed beautifully. You've got your best dress on. You've got lipstick. You've got your hair done. If you're a man, you've got your suit. You've got your tie. You've got your hair. You have shaved and everything. And somebody comes up to you, especially to a lady and says, you look beautiful. What do you say? Oh, he already told me that. Right? No, everyone, oh, thank you. Oh, thank you.
And you walk ten more feet and somebody goes, oh, you look beautiful. Oh, thank you. Another ten feet. Oh, you look beautiful. Oh, thank you all night long. And the divine is inside of you. Ah, I heard that. Boring. Boring. These clearly show the attributes of a person who does not know. Who does not know. Who does not know what peace is. Who does not know what reality is. Who does not know what the divine is. People have been trying to define the divine ever since they could speak. Somebody said, oh, look, the sun is the divine. Somebody said, no, no, no, the moon is the divine. No, no, no, so-and-so is the divine. No, no, no, divine lives over there. Divine is this, divine is that. And pretty soon before you know it, divine has a gender. Male. Male. Not female.
Slowly. Slowly, I have seen stickers, you know. God is a she, not he. But that is the only power in this universe that does not need a gender. Doesn't need height. Doesn't need weight. Doesn't need a suit. Doesn't need a watch. Has nowhere to come from and nowhere to go. There was a king and he was holding his court and that particular day all the top poets had come. And they were all making little poetry and there was this one poet who was really good and he was going at it. And he wrote a little poem. Oh, emperor, you are so great. You are so generous. You are so good. And when the emperor heard the poem, he was, wow. Immediately he took off his pearl necklace and gave it to him. And now there was no stopping this poet. Oh, emperor, your one look can save the world. Wow. Took off his diamond bracelet and gave it to him. And now there was really no stopping him. So on and on and on he's writing this poetry. And all of a sudden he says, and oh, emperor, you are greater than God.
Dead silence. The emperor's looking at all the ministers and the courtiers and all the courtiers are looking at themselves and they're going, uh-oh. If we applaud, that means that we agree. And this is clearly not true. And now the emperor also sees the quandary, the situation. They can't applaud. They don't say anything. And so what's going to happen? Is the emperor going to be acknowledged as being greater than God? There was one minister who was very intelligent, very smart, and everybody looked at him. Please save us. So the emperor, too, looked at him and said, and his name was Birbal, and said, Birbal, do you agree? And the emperor knew this was it because what's he going to say? If he says yes, he's lying, too, and he knows that. If he says no, I will become insulted. So finally the emperor thought he had him. Birbal turned to the emperor and said, Sire, there's one thing that you can do that God cannot do. There's one thing you can do that God cannot do. And the emperor went, what? And Birbal said, you can throw somebody out of your kingdom, but God can't. Everywhere people are told, oh, the divine is everywhere, and they go, divine is everywhere, divine is everywhere, divine is everywhere, they're singing the song, divine is everywhere. Do you know what that means, divine is everywhere? Do you know what it means? Any idea? You know, the parrot says, Polly want a cracker. Polly want a cracker. Polly want a cracker. Does the parrot really understand what Polly is? Does the parrot really understand what the cracker is? Does the parrot really understand what the want is? Or does it merely know that by uttering these words, it will receive a cracker? That's the same situation. Everywhere, everywhere, yes, everywhere, oh, yes, yes, everywhere, everywhere, yes, yes, everywhere. It sounds like a rap song. I put in front of you that if the divine is everywhere, then surely the divine must be in you too. No.
No. And if you are looking for butter in your home, if you are looking for butter, aren't you going to look in your refrigerator first before you look in your neighbor's? So then, why are you not looking for that divine within you? Why are you not looking for the peace within you? Why are you not looking for the heaven within you? A lot of people have different definitions of heaven. I have heard many, many descriptions of heaven, and I just ask them one question. The heaven that you are talking about, is that heaven with the divine or without the divine? The heaven with the divine or the heaven without the divine? Oh, of course the heaven with the divine. So, if the divine is within you, guess where heaven is? Within you too. Not judgment. Not definitions. Not ideas. Not conjectures that I'm talking about. The reality. The reality. The reality of being alive. In peace. The reality of being alive with joy. The reality of being alive in contentment. To have an understanding of what it means to be in gratitude. To look at every single day as the possibility of being fulfilled. Most people are scared of their day. Most people are scared of their day. Most people are scared of their day. Are you thinking? Are you scared of your day? A little bit. A little bit. For how many days were you planning? How many of you would like to have your day go perfectly? How many? Me too. Me too.
Have it go perfectly. That means you know it doesn't always go perfectly. And do you know you're only going to have one imperfect day? In your whole life, you're only going to have one imperfect day. Just one. And you know what that day is going to be? That is the day when you take the breath, it comes in, goes out, and does not come back in. That is the only day that is going to be the most imperfect day of your life. And every day that this blessing, this breath comes into you, it is a perfect day. It's a perfect day. In India, they sell vegetables in a cart. At least not in big cities anymore, but in little towns, they still have fresh, fresh vegetables. Not refrigerated, not flown from 3,000 nautical miles around, but fresh, locally. And they do eat a lot of vegetables in India. And they have a scale. So it's very cheap, made out of bamboo, strings, two plates, and then they have a little handle. The handle is usually made out of cloth. They hold the handle, they put the vegetables, and they put the weight, because they sell by weight. And you have to watch them. You really have to watch them. Because sometimes they'll take that scale and kind of bend it down a little bit so the vegetables seem heavier than they are. So they put more weight on it, and then it kind of gets level, but they're holding the handle like this. And even just a little bit makes a big difference. You have to watch them. When every day being given to you is perfect, who makes your day imperfect? You are the person holding the scales and bending them, twisting them. The sun rose this morning.
You think the sun rose this morning with an agenda to make your day imperfect? You think so? Let's see, Buenos Aires, Taiwan. Taiwan. No. The moon, you think? You think the moon said, let's see if I can find somebody whose day I can ruin today. You think so? The air, ah, let's see. Let's see if we can find somebody whose day we can ruin. The time. The time that was there when everything began. The time said, hmm, let's see. You see, these things don't even care. What are you on one hand? 99% of you, oxygen, hydrogen, calcium, carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Exactly the same stuff the person sitting next to you is made out of on your left, on your right, in front of you, behind you. That's it. That's it. 99%. Who are you? Every day, you shed 10 billion flakes of dead skin in a year that can equal to 2 kilos of dead skin. Who are you? So you are the perfect instrument. And when this instrument is in tune, it can produce the truest tones, the most beautiful tones. One, it needs to be in tune and two, it needs to be played well. So I say that be in tune with the reality of that blessing that is inside of you. And so far in your life, you have allowed your mind to play this instrument. And so far, no good symphony has been produced. Once in a while, you hear a twang and it seems to be in a good note but the rest of it seems to be what people say, this is life. This is it.
Then you have not heard what this instrument is capable of. Then you have not heard the possibility when this instrument plays when it is fulfilled, the passion, the joy, the contentment that come out of this instrument is unique. Why is this important? Why? Even if you live to be a hundred years, that's only 36,500 days. 36,500 days. That's it. That's a hundred years. It's not very much. And how important it is that every day, yes, every day needs to be in that contentment. In sync. The dance that is being danced in step. The drum that is being played with the rhythm that understanding the value and appreciation for every breath that comes into you. Too much? Oh, every breath? You see, when that bad day comes, you will know the value of breath. You will. You will. But you won't be able to do anything with your newfound wisdom. And I want you to understand the value of breath now whilst you're still alive, while you can enjoy that wisdom. What point is the wisdom if you cannot use it? It's like somebody who has been looking for a ring for a really long time. Finally, some accident happens and their hand gets cut off and they find the ring. It's on their finger. What's the point? You don't have the hand anymore. What are you going to wear it on? People leave it. Oh, no, I'm young. I'm too young. I have to enjoy all of this stuff.
I have to do this. I have to do that. I have to party. I have to do this. I have to do that. Do you hear me say you shouldn't do that? See, people automatically assume that to have peace in their life they have to abandon everything. Where does this come from? When the peace is not going to be found on the outside, it is going to be found on the inside. What you do on the outside, what does it have to do with the peace on the inside? There's a joke. Somebody called and the police say, I have locked my keys inside the car. Can you please come and help? The police said, okay, we will send somebody who can undo your door and get your keys out. The man said, could you please hurry up? It's starting to rain. And the top of the car is down. It's the same thing. Oh, you mean I will have to give up my family and go on top of some mountain? This is how it seems to be? People who are looking for peace, you see them in a mountain somewhere. Why? Why? You think if there is peace there, no goats get killed? The cheetah just... All the cheetahs become vegetarians. No, we cannot kill. We are on a mountain. Where does this come from? So many ideas. Define, define, define, define, define. Are you holy? I show up sometimes. I'm in a suit, I'm wearing a tie, I have shoes. How come I'm not in some saffron white robes? Long hair. My hair is long, but that's because I need a haircut desperately. Kabir says that if peace could be had with having long hair, then the peacock surely is in peace.
It has a really long tail. No. It's on the inside. I'm not asking for sacrifices. What kind of a father could you be if you haven't found your peace within? What kind of a mother could you be if you have not found that peace within? War. War. Somebody always starts a war. Because what is the birthplace of the war? Of the turmoil? In us as well. Oh! So peace is inside of us and turmoil is inside of us? Yes! Darkness is inside of us and light is inside of us? Yes! The curious thing is the world has found the darkness. The curious thing is the world has found the conflict. The curious thing is the world has found the greed. The curious thing is the world has found the unconsciousness. And I am going around the world inspiring people, I hope, to find the peace, the joy. Because if you can discover anger inside of you, if you can discover doubt inside of you, then you are completely capable of also experiencing the clarity which is inside of you. If you have been in the world of questions, then you are completely capable of also being in the world of answers which is also inside of you. If we are capable of starting wars, then we are also quite capable of bringing care, respect, understanding and peace into this world. Because it is just the other side of the coin. Ignorance and Knowledge are neighbours. Ignorance and Knowledge are neighbours. Clarity and doubt are neighbours. Life and death are neighbours right next to each other. Darkness and light are neighbours. How close are they? Take away one and the other one is instantly there. Doesn't take much.
Turn off the light now. Understand? Feel? Know? You've become believers. We all have become believers. We believe and believe and believe and believe some more and believe some more and believe some more and you don't know how painful and complicated beliefs are. You have no idea. Beliefs are incredibly complicated. You have to justify them just about every day. What's wrong with knowing? Nothing. But do you know? Let's begin with simpler things. Do you know how blessed you are? Do you? I'll be blessed when I find a good wife, have perfect children, have a perfect job, have a perfect career, have perfect fame. This is the world's formula. This is the world's formula. I just want to know one thing. Where does this inspiration for this formula come from? Hydrogen or oxygen or calcium or carbon or nitrogen or phosphorus? Which one of these chemicals, gases, elements is inspiring you to have this formula? Which one? Do you know? Well, neither do I. I have no idea. I have no idea where this comes from. I just know from India to America to South America to China to Africa to Australia to the Middle East to the Western Pacific, Eastern Pacific, Southern Pacific, Northern Pacific. Everybody seems to have it. And nobody questions it. Ah, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yes. And do you work hard at it? Very hard. Very, very hard. And when one of these formulas does not go right for you, you become incredibly disappointed. I have seen people.
I have seen people. They come to me sometimes and they go, help me. I say, what can I do for you? My wife ran away. Help me. I'm like, must have been a reason why she ran away. Somebody asked me, so how do I get her back? I had to say to this one person, I said, so it's really amazing. You were born married. No, no, I was not born married. So really, you were not born married? When did you get married? Oh, you know, I was like 30 years old when I got married. So I said, 30 years of your life you were without your wife? Yes. Yes. Interesting. What happened? You saw her and that was it? You just both went and got married? No, no, no. We met each other. We liked each other. We fell in love and then we decided to get married. So I say to them, I say, well, you do know each other, right? Yeah. Maybe something changed. Marriage is about love, not a list of responsibilities. People getting married, oh, the carpet has to be perfect, the flowers have to be perfect, the cake has to be perfect. This is what I said in one of the projects that I'm doing. I said, you really think marriage is about flour, eggs, sugar, and icing? The cake has to be perfect. Pay attention to love. We don't pay attention to what needs attention.
We don't pay attention to the need of the heart because the inspiration to be in peace comes when you listen to your heart. The inspiration to be content comes from your being. The inspiration to be clear comes from here and you need to listen. You need to hear. The problem in the world physically, why is there a problem between parents and children? You know why? I'm a little bit of an expert. I have four children of my own. I'm a grandfather. It makes me a little automatic expert. I'll tell you what the problem is. We don't hear each other. We don't listen to each other. What is the problem between husband and wife? We don't hear each other. We don't listen to each other. What is the problem between government and the citizens? Don't listen to each other. People don't hear the government. Government doesn't hear the people. And what is the problem with the self? We don't hear ourselves. We don't hear the needs that we have. We don't hear the want, the wish of this heart to be content, simple, to have simplicity in this life, to have joy, to feel the gratitude every single day, to be inspired by the magic of all magics, by the miracle of all miracles, the coming and going of this breath. The coming and going of this breath. People want to go in their lives, oh, if there is a divine, I want to see the divine, feel the divine. That's how you see the divine. You see what you see, and you can be fooled, but feel, that's how you see the divine. Feel.
Embrace your existence. And so, of course, people are like, you know, so how do I do this? How do I do this? How do I do this? Excuse me. Stop for a second. Remember what I said in the beginning? Twenty pesos. Do you remember? I just told you. I told you, I gave you the most incredible news that one human being could give another human being. You know what I said? I said the divine is in you. You know, I go to people and I say, you are alive. I say that. I say, you are alive. And they look at me like, you called us out to this hall to tell us you are alive? Good God, I knew that! In my home! It's a sad situation when we cannot be excited when somebody says the divine is inside of you. Best news. You are alive. Best news! If... If... you are incapable of hearing this news and it sounds to you like a foreign language, then I suggest you learn that language. And it is called the language of the heart. That's what I teach. That's what I go and present to people so that they can learn the language of the heart. Because this consciousness is what makes us different than the 99% of the oxygen, hydrogen, calcium, carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus. These elements, these six elements, they are abundantly present on this earth. What makes you different is you can be aware of this blessing. You can be aware of that divine. You can be aware of who you are. Of course, then people go, well, you know, can a cow be aware? Cow is aware. Ask a cow.
A pig is aware. Who isn't? We're that. We have forgotten what it is like to be alive. We have forgotten what it is like where we should be celebrating our existence. We are ready to kill each other. Shame. That's shameful, regardless of the reason. Regardless of the reason. People go, oh, but there are so many people that are hungry in this world. Why do you think they're hungry? Because God made them like that? No. They're hungry because of the human greed. You think enough food is not raised? According to the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, 1.2 billion tons of food is wasted every year. You know how much food that is? That is half of the total food production of this earth every year. People could be fed easily. Poverty? People go, oh yeah, you're poor. You're poor. Who made poverty? You think God made poverty? No. People made poverty. People make poverty. It's the greed. Greed. My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my. There are people who have so much money that they could not sit down and start counting it. Can you imagine that? They would get bored.
The problems are created by us and the solutions also reside with us. Discover your being, yourself, because in that self there is everything that you need. Everything. To feel the contentment, to feel the joy, to feel this beautiful reality for the rest of your life. Learn the language of the heart and see and feel what you have been missing. My words are not just empty words. My words are not just empty words. If you want to know the self, I can help. I do not say that with arrogance. In fact, I say to people, I should not be coming here and talking to people about peace. Everybody should already know what peace is. I do not say that with arrogance. I say, search. Search wherever you want to search for it. If you don't find it, look me up. I'm around. It's simple. It's real. And whether you decide to do something about it or not, it still does not change the good news. You are alive. What you're looking for is within you. It will never change it. Never. And you should be very, very excited. Because you are the source of your heaven. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you very much and good night. Thank you.
