Prem Rawat's Teaching about God the Father- In His Own Words

The young Guru Maharaj Ji (Prem Rawat) mostly stressed the positive in his speeches, his Knowledge was perfect, it produced peace and bliss", what more could you wish for? Less often though he presented an apocalyptic message, "Jesus prophesied that there will be famine and thunders before the Kingdom of Heaven comes", the world was like a rich man riding an elephant who falls into a well and catches a branch who sees "two rats, black and white, cutting that branch he is suspended on!" Luckily God, according to this era's Incarnation is all-merciful.

The young Prem Rawat posing as the Satguru and Perfect Master, Guru Maharaj Ji, gave a speech on the 25th July 1972 at the Montrose Guru Puja festival. It is reprinted in And It Is Divine Magazine Volume I Number 6 though his speeches were heavily edited in those days. Some extremely revealing parts are recorded in the film "Satguru Has Come." It's safe to say he was holding nothing back at that time. Though he didn't actually say he was that Incarnation of God that had come back there was so little left to say that in 1975 Bob Mishler said "And in fact, Guru Maharaj Ji stated at the time that 'he already has' " and Rennie Davis in 1973 remembered him actually saying "If I had come one year later" and as the audio is a little hard to catch, maybe he did. One thing is for sure, this pronouncement was considered so important DLM were still reprinting it until the very destruction of the world … of Divine Light Mission.

If there is a father - suppose I am a father, and there is a fire burning here, and my child is crawling towards the same fire, right? And he is very near to the fire and almost he is in the fire, and I am still watching him, am I a father? I have got no right to say of myself I am a father, because if I am a father, I have got many responsibilities on myself, and one of these responsibilities is to protect my child. Don't you think we have entered this fire where it is getting out of our control? A bullet comes and shoots you. No one cares for human life. Haven't we entered this fire? It's a very, very, very bad fire we have entered. And God can still watch do you think? That the human race will be destroyed and God will still watch? He is the Father? If He is going to watch, and the world is being destroyed, He is not a father. He may be something else, but He is not a father. But no, God has manifested Himself, because if He manifested Himself after one year, it would be too late.

Question: If you were in India during the Indo-Pakistan war, then why didn't you end it?
Guru Maharaj Ji: If I had been preaching to Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Mr. Bhutto then it would have been alright. But I was not. I was preaching to people who wanted to hear me, who wanted to receive the message of peace.

He said once, if a father is sitting watching his own child crawl into the fire, and he says, supposing I am a father and the child is getting closer and closer to the fire, would the father sit back and do nothing at all while the child crawled into the fire? Obviously not, he would stop the child. He said, people think that God is a father, and isnt it true that the whole human race is crawling into this fire, and no one has any regard for human life anymore? Do you think, if God is a father he would sit back and do nothing about the situation right now? He said if he did he wouldnt be a father. He might be something else, but definitely not a father. Then he goes on to say: But no, God is a father, and that's why God has manifested Himself. If I had come one year later, it would have been too late. I remember Guru Maharaj Ji said something a few years back. In 1972 he gave a very strong satsang at a festival where he said things are so bad in this world that if God is really, truly our father, our creator; and he's watching and we're all his children; and things have got to the point where we have the capacity to literally, to completely annihilate life on this planet, don't you think that if he's the father, he's going to do something about it? Isn't he going to take some measure to make sure that that's not going to happen? And in fact, Guru Maharaj Ji stated at the time that he already has.

An interested person went to the festival with his home move camera and filled some scenes which he released 40 years later on the internet as "The Gathering. The film really gives a picture of the day as he describes it: "largely filled with a sort of aimless peripatetic energy, empty sermons, meager spectacle, a little commerce, much sunshine, a welcome afternoon shower, a bit of music, a suggestion of mystery."
