- You have not been "given" consciousness. You have not been given ...
- He complains that people pay attention to his claims.
- the track record of being able to fulfill his mind's wishes has not been good in Rawat's opinion
- His in a complaining mood. He must have some real statistics on his success or otherwise. what is your fundamental reality? I know, when I ask that question, I know that for 99.999% of the people, to the power of 142, it goes right over the head.

Words of Peace: Maharaji: Your Fundamental Wish 2005 E116

Internationally renowned speaker Prem Rawat, also known as Maharaji, speaks to people around the world about the possibility of knowing inner peace and contentment. At the age of 13 he was invited to address audiences in London and Los Angeles [as Guru Maharaj Ji, The Lord of the Universe]. In 1972 he first visited Sydney and two years later came to Melbourne and Auckland, New Zealand. Speaking at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, he recently said The peace that we are looking for is already in the heart. It needs to be felt and I can help you get in touch with it. Maharaji's message is more than words. People listening to him express finding profound inspiration, a fresh perspective on life and peace within themselves.
For me, it's an opportunity again to speak about this life. And once again, this evening, we have a chance to listen to that simple message. A message that we forget.
The message that says, remember this breath. The message that says, remember this life. There's nothing out there that is supporting that, that is trying to bring the attention towards this existence. There is nothing out there that is saying that within you is the possibility to be fulfilled. And for so many centuries, the voice has been calling out, what you are looking for is within you. What you are looking for is within you. What you are looking for is within you. Your truth is within you. Your peace is within you. Your joy is within you. And the desire to feel those things is what constitutes the thirst. To feel joy.

You see, it's not that you have been given anger and thirst to feel anger. No, you have been given anger but a thirst to feel tranquility. Yes, you have ignorance, but you have been given a thirst to feel clarity. And herein lies the biggest confusion for people. be confused. Change that what you have placed in front of you. Trade the doubt for clarity and you will feel clarity. Because feeling is what you must do. Feeling is your fundamental reality, whether you like it or not. The question is, what have you been putting in front of this feeling machine? Doubt? Then it feels doubt. Isn't that amazing? blame the feeling machine. It's doing its job superbly. Place doubt in front of it and it feels doubt. Place anger in front of it and it feels anger. Place confusion in front of it and it feels confusion. Place love in front of it and it feels love. Place grace in front of it, it feels grace and place the peace in front of it, and it feels the peace.
And people want to fix the feeling machine. Oh, let's fix the feeling machine. What can we do? Let's go to this training. Let's go to that seminar. Let's learn this. Let's learn that. When I sleep good at night, I cannot convince myself. I tried. Ah, you slept for so many hours. You know, it was da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da. You should be feeling fine. It doesn't matter. How did I sleep? How did you sleep? You can't convince yourself. Oh, yeah, well, I was in bed for 11 hours. I must have slept good. How tired are you? If you are not tired, five hours, six hours sleep may be sufficient. But if you are really, really tired, maybe even the 11-hour sleep is not sufficient. And who's willing to ask themselves that question? Who's willing to ask themselves this one question that says that as long as I have been alive and for as long as I will be alive, the thirst to feel the good in me, the thirst to feel the joy in me will always be there.
Why? For the answer to that question turn within. And feel. Feel that thing that wants to be simple. You have up to now felt the thing that wants to be complicated. Now feel the thing that wants to be simple. Feel the thing that wants to be clear. Feel the thing that wants to have the enjoyment. Feel the thing that wants to sing in gratitude. Feel the thing that wants to be in that festival of life. Feel the thing that wants to appreciate the value of each breath. You feel that. Because you need to. Without it, your life will be incomplete.
I, you know, go around the world and try to tell people how fortunate we are, that we are alive. But every time I say this and I look at people, I also see, and it tells me that they hear my words, but they understand them. Because to hear that I am fortunate to be alive, that this is a wonderful thing, that this is amazing, that this is the most incredible, should have all my attention, one million percent. But it isn't. Why? Because what do you think you have this life for? It's a very interesting question. Because if you think you have this life to fulfill your mind's wishes, that that's the objective, then it's very easy to understand why you do not take notice when somebody says you're very fortunate to be alive.
Because one, the track record of being able to fulfill those wishes has not been so good. And two, as the wishes become more and more complex, the worse the scenario starts to become. So, on one hand, you hear that you are very fortunate to be alive, and on the other hand, you hear all the things that you know, all the things that you have always wanted, wanted, things, societies, the world, other people around you, who have told you that this is what you should want, that this is what you should need, and then trying to fulfill them, trying to make them happen. And what do I say to you? Well, what is your most fundamental wish for which this life can be used and it will be fulfilled? What is, of all the desires you have, what is your most fundamental desire? Desire that was, is, and will be.

So, do you know what your fundamental reality is? You're not a refrigerator door. And the reason why I say that is a refrigerator door is something that takes on people's personality that use it. People buy little magnets, strawberry, orange, they put that on. People put stickers on, you know, God loves you, smile. When you look at people's refrigerators, it takes on their personality. Because this is something they always go to. This is their temple, away from temple. But what is your true personality? Who are you? What are you? Are you just a bunch of ideas? Are you the social scene that is happening currently in this world? See, you think so. You have allowed yourself to be demeaned to the point of becoming a refrigerator door. It's not a big deal. Because when I ask you the question, what is your fundamental reality? I know, when I ask that question, I know that for 99.999% of the people, to the power of 142, it goes right over the head. Because there is not too many people in this world, you see, who have gone to the faucet and turned it and actually said, wow, there's water. Or, no, there's no water. Everything in this life just becomes a formula. Becomes a formula to the most ridiculous extent. Where you start to talk about thirst, it's like, oh yeah, I saw a faucet, so now I'm going to buy a faucet and take it and install it in my home. Where do I put this faucet? Oh, someplace nice. So I find a wall and I stick it in. Is it hooked up to anything? It doesn't matter. Just turn it. Does the water come out? I know. Because that's all I saw people doing, is turning this knob and felt quenched. So that's all I need to do, is turn the knob and I'll be quenched. And there's that process of actually holding that water in your hand and taking and drinking it and drinking it until it is quenched. That's your fundamental reality. That you need to feel.
So as this world goes around and around and around and around and around, as it has for such an extremely long time, there we find ourselves. There we are. On the surface of this earth. Another little drama has begun. Another little actor has come and is joining the stage. And he has his script. She has her script. What is your script? So what are you supposed to say? So what are you supposed to act? What is your script? And the whole world wants to tell you what your script should be. Parents want to tell you what the script should be. Mother wants to tell you, father wants to tell you, brothers want to tell you, sister wants to tell you. Uncle wants to tell. Everybody wants to tell you what the script should be. And then there's your heart that wants to also tell you what it should be.
Will you listen? Can you, from where you are in your life, this is a very powerful question, where you are in your life, can you afford to listen to your heart? Can you afford to listen to your heart? In your heart, you know what is important, but you cannot make it a reality. Thirst you have, and so what good do you do to that thirst? Instead of trying to quench it, you try to forget it. How can that be? How can I forget what is important to me? How can I forget that this is my time? This is my time.

There are people who, you know, when I say, well, you know, this is it, they go, no, no, no, there's another one. There's another lifetime. Let me say this to you. I will not argue with you whether there is or isn't, but what is the harm in living it like this is the only one? I'm not gonna argue with you. You may have your belief, and I'm not about to change it. Fine, there'll be 50 more, but that doesn't mean that it changes the fact that this is your time. you realize that the soul, what people call soul without the feeling machine, it's nothing. Needs the feeling machine. When the feeling machine is there, then it's like a battery. Battery and a shelf powers nothing. It cannot make a light come on, can it? But placed inside that flashlight, placed inside that thing with a good bulb, then light can be there. This is your time.
And in this time, if you can, remember that one thing that is the most beautiful in nature, not natural nature, in its nature, it is most beautiful. In its nature, it is the most clear. In its nature, it is the most profound. In its nature, it is the most peaceful. In this nature, it is the most joyful. Bringer of joy. Bringer of joy. And you are the machine that loves joy. Loves joy.
A bee is very committed to going and finding that little nectar. I know what a bee thinks. I've thought about it many times. What does a bee think? Not today. Today is Sunday. No, there is no Sunday. There is no Monday. I know what the bee thinks. One day it occurred to me, I'm gonna have a good time. And I know exactly how to have a good time. Go and find that flower and bring back that little sweet drop of nectar. That is good time. And then, and then, that's what matters. And the bee will come back and do this little dance, tell the direction, which way the other one should go. And I mean, to them, that's like, good news! You want to have a good time? Well, just go this way, this way, this way, this way, this way, this way, this way, this way, and have your good time. The sun. And the little bee has figured out, I'm gonna use the sun to tell the direction. And here I go! The braveness of a little bee. I mean, it has no idea what it's going up against. But that's it! That's its focus! And it goes. And it finds. And its dedication to that is so clear! Clear! So fundamental! It has, that bee has embraced, in its little life, that bee has embraced its thirst, embraced its most fundamental and sincere desire to be happy. So, what can you learn from a bee? Maybe you also need to embrace, not just accept. Embrace, with great enthusiasm, this fundamental need, this fundamental want that you have.
You see, one of the biggest problems we have with ourselves is we can get used to anything. Big problem. Let me give you some examples. There is a town in America. And you arrive in this town, and it smells so bad. They have a paper mill. They make paper. And the sugars from the tree, they ferment. And when they ferment, the stink, the stench is unbelievable. So you arrive, you've been flying, the door opens, and it's like it hits you like a ton of bricks. And you get in the car, and it's like, how can anybody live here? And you see people driving, you see people walking, you see people playing games, you see people running around, you see people jogging. And it's like, how can they stand this? Well, unfortunate thing is, ask yourself the same question four days later. You've stopped thinking about it. It doesn't bother you anymore. How can that be? How can that be? We get used to it.
We too, get used to all the confusion. The day, there was a day, you see, when confusion came, and we reacted. We said, no. There was a day when hate came, and we reacted, no. There was a day when anger came, and we reacted, no. And then, we got used to it. All of us have gotten used to what our heart will never get used to. Never. We have learned to live in confusion. Not a problem. People can live for weeks and months and years in confusion. Confusion. Confusion everywhere. But it's fine. It's okay. It's acceptable. It's tolerable. It's understandable. And, not only that, there is a huge industry out there, helping you to stay that way. Cope with it. And you want to hear the worst part of it? You like that.
You like that. The other day, I picked up this magazine article, How to Eat Fatty Food and Lose Weight. My Creator gave me a palette to help enjoy. And I have taken that palette and turned it into what I would never normally touch. But I get used to it. I will get used to it. My Creator gave me eyes so I can see clearly. And I have placed in front of it so much haze and so much smoke. And somebody comes along, pats me on the back. worry about it. Let me help you cope with this. And so it goes.

Today, before coming here, I was walking on the street and there was this lady in front and she was having a problem with her shoe. And she would take a few steps and stop and fix her shoe, take a few steps and stop and fix her shoe, take a few steps, stop and fix her shoe. She was aware of her shoe. And I know what she was thinking, but I could imagine. I'm not going to wear these stupid shoes again. And I felt sorry for her. I didn't even know how far she had to walk with this condition, these pathetic shoes that are bothering her. If she kept doing this, she's not going to reach home anytime soon. Because we need to be aware when confusion has set in and clarity is no more. Tolerance is not an acceptable, viable solution. This is what I'm saying to you. This is not a good alternative.
There are people who have diabetes and pretty soon their extremities, they can't feel things anymore. And they have to be very careful because if they burn themselves, they would burn themselves, but they wouldn't know it. The extremities start to become numb. And because they have that feeling, they have to be extra careful. Well, if we allow ourselves to become immune, to become numb to those things, then how will we be able to acknowledge joy in our lives? How will we be able to acknowledge this breath in our lives? How will we acknowledge, how will we celebrate the coming and going of this breath? If we become numb, how will we be able to fill our hearts with gratitude for what we have been given? Numbness means both ways. You get to feel good and you get to feel bad.
And I am here to remind you that the good is so good that it is infinitely better than the bad. The good is so good. The beautiful is so beautiful. The real is so real. The joy is so joyful. That it is many, many times better than the bad. And it is. It's not absent. It is. It's here. Nothing has been taken away. Yes, there is bad, but there is good. That yes, there is darkness, but there is incredible light. And the light is much, much brighter in its intensity than the darkness is in its darkness. That's what I'm saying. The joy is more intense in its joyfulness than the sadness is in its sadness. Why? I believe very strongly that every human being is by default made to experience that joy. So, by default, there is no bottom or upper limit to joy of how much a person can feel, whilst there is a bottom limit to how much sadness a person may experience.
Amazing. The dices in this life are loaded. And if you have heard, this is not fair play. It isn't. And if you want to win, you have to play a different game. Not the one you have been playing. Because the dices are not loaded in the favor of the game that we all play. Dices are loaded in the favor of another game. And what is that game? The game to be fulfilled. To be fulfilled. To be away from the darkness. To be in joy. To be one with this breath. To be in clarity. To accept simplicity. To revel, dance, play with serenity. This is how it is. So be immune. Feel every day. Feel every single day the joy. And if you, do whatever it takes so that you do feel that.
Do, undo whatever it takes to fill this life with that simplicity. Understand. Understand. And a lot of people say, well, you know, and they want to be humble. Oh, I understand that I understand a lot. But that's not an incredibly good understanding to end up with. Because that's neither here nor there. So a lot of people want to be humble. I just understand I understand anything. Well, so how does this understanding help you? No, understand. Understand. And know that even in your darkest moment, light is shining bright within you. That in your most intense doubt, clarity is right there. Not far. How far can it be? It's within you. How far do you think it's going to be? How tall are you? We're only talking about feet. Not miles. We're not talking about the ends of the universe. We're talking about within you. And if you could accept that in your life, if you could really understand that in your life, I'll tell you, your walk will change. Why will it change? Because you, if you know that that clarity is always within you, that that fulfillment is always within you, then you will know that you have nothing to fear.
Thank you.

To accept ignorance and to learn how to live with it is not your nature. Your nature, your nature is much more wonderful than that because your nature is to seek clarity. That's your nature. Your nature is not to perpetuate and try to win the inner war. Your nature is to be in peace and to seek peace, find it, and dwell there where peace is. That's your nature, is to seek, to seek.
So beautiful. The bee, the hummingbird has been given the ability to extract the nectar from that flower. Elephant is ten times, million times more powerful and strong than a bee. But it is not specialized to extract the nectar from the flower. It can take the whole flower and stick it in his mouth, the whole plant, the whole pot, even the whole field. You see how incredible it is? Bear loves honey, but cannot go to each flower and extract it. Bee can do this. That is its nature. And of all the things a bee could do, it focuses on that one thing that it does the best. And it goes. Every day. And yes, there are distractions. And the wind blows the wrong way. And yes, even the best bees sometimes lose their way. But given that opportunity, there is no question as to what that bee addresses. And addresses that ability that it has to extract that nectar from that flower. So, you too have a speciality. And the speciality that you have is not to tame the bees. Yes, you can do that, but that's not your speciality. Your speciality is to be able to fly to the flower of this heart and extract the nectar that dwells. That's your speciality. Your speciality is to seek freedom and find it. Your speciality is to extract the peace, to extract the joy from each flower of this breath. That's your speciality.
So I say to you, know. Not no, know. Know in your life what fulfillment is and feel it every single day. Know in your life what joy is and feel it every single day. Know in your life what clarity is and feel it every single day. Know in your life the value of this breath and feel it every single day. compromise in these things. Compromise in the rest. You will have a very happy, fulfilled life. compromise these few things.
