Guru Maharaj Ji Picture Book - 1975

This 1975 untitled very glossy booklet (23cm x 31cm) contains around 80 pictures of Prem Rawat (then calling himself Guru Maharaj Ji) and one of his father dressed as Krishna. These are mainly photos of him as a boy in India and the introduction is a quote from the Bible whch appears to be wildly incongruous if you do not know that Prem Rawat's Lotus Feet were considered the holiest place on Earth according to Divine Light Mission theology as taught by Rawat and his father and that kissing those divine feet was considered to be the ultimate human experience.

How beautiful upon the mountains are
the feet of him that brings good tidings,
that publishes peace.
– the Book of Isaiah

The time has come. See how peace will be established in the world. There will be peace on earth. That peace which disappeared shall prevail again. It will come, and once again the world will understand … Soon I will leave my studies and spread the Holy Word of Guru Maharaj Ji throughout the world. How will the world not receive it? To every single child I will reveal this Name. I will give you such a thing, such a Name, that you have never received before in your life.

But come to me. Why do you hesitate? The time has come for restlessness to be destroyed and the Kingdom of Peace to be established. All I ask is your love, all I ask is your trust, and what I can give you is such a peace as will never die.

Once in my school, a bishop came. The students began asking questions. Some asked whether the Hindu religion is right; some asked whether Christianity is right; while some asked whether the Muslim religion is right. Some were saying one thing; others were saying something else. Then I told those students, "You do not even know how to ask questions. When such a big personality of the Christian religion has come here, you should ask such questions as are meaningful." My friends replied, "Ask him yourself."

Questions and Answers with Guru Maharaj Ji

Maharaj Ji, what is devotion?
Devotion is the flow of love from a devotee to his Lord, and darshan is seeing the Lord's physical form.

What is faith, Maharaj Ji?
Faith is belief. If I believe you, I have got faith in you. But real faith is only with the Lord. Nobody is ever faithful but the Lord. Everybody deceives except the embodiment of Truth.

Does the light become dim if you do something wrong?
It only becomes dim if you are not practicing it. It is all practice.

Is life as difficult as it sometimes seems to be?

Life is a tide, float on it. Go down with it and go up with it. But be detached, then it is not difficult.

Guru Maharaj Ji, what is love?
Love is something that cannot be spoken of. It can only be experienced practically, and real love is only between the Lord and devotee. But today everybody is misusing it, loving their car, loving their house, and so on. Well, just try and experience the original and real thing inside yourself. This love is only for God, nothing else in the world, only for the Supreme Almighty, because only He is capable of receiving love. Do you understand?

Guru Maharaj Ji, I have often wondered what is the relationship between man and God after death?
Die and see.

Guru Maharaj Ji, are you permanently in God consciousness?
Yes, I am permanently in God consciousness.

How do we become perfect, Guru Maharaj Ji?
I would recommend that you stop imagining becoming perfect. Just imagine about becoming a perfect devotee.

As you know, until we have found the Perfect One, until we have realized the perfect stage, we do not know the aim of life, why this body has been given to us. You see, when we say, "Sat, Chit and Anand," Truth, Consciousness and Bliss – none of it is possible if we don't have one of them, because to have one we must have all of them. See, we want to be in the stage of Truth, but to be in the stage of Truth we cannot leave consciousness. When we are in the stage of consciousness, automatically we are in the stage of bliss. We cannot leave bliss out of the consciousness, because when we go there, automatically it's there … if we get one thing, and that is the Knowledge, the ultimate thing, then all these three things, Truth, Consciousness and Bliss Sat, Chit and Anand – will automatically come into US.
