Who Is Guru Maharaj Ji?
In late 2009 a former community audio/visual co-ordinator for Divine Light Mission was cleaning out his attic and contacted the Ex-Premie Forum to see if anyone might want the boxes of tapes, magazines and some 35mm films that he hadn't destroyed when ordered to in the early 1980's. The film quality had deteriorated during the 30 years but were professionally converted to DVDs.
This film, produced in the early '70s chronicles the genesis of Prem Rawat (previously known as Guru Maharaj Ji as well as 'The Lord of the Universe') as seen by his fervent followers at the time. Rawat is presented here as the pinnacle of all existence. It is a highly educational piece of evidence of how tens of thousands of people in the "1960's Hippie" movement ended up joining this cult (or New Religious movement) for a few months or for 40 years. The complete film has been uploaded to Youtube! Click here for details

Man, (click here for video) we can finally understand that what man has got in his brain is to destroy the whole world. He does not understand that if he tries to cut the same branch he is sitting on he will also fall down. He doesn't understand that so he is trying to cut the same branch on which he is sitting. He is trying to cut away the same world he is sitting on he is on. Now if this will be destroyed then where the man will live?
Now I am here in Tokyo (click here for video) to tell you about this Knowledge, to preach you about this Knowledge. Lord Buddha even taught 4 Noble Truths, Lord Krishna talks about this Word in Gita and when we go into Bible John talks about this Word, In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. If you go there the other side you will find Mohammed saying the same thing: Pak Nam. If you into all the religions we will find one thing, all the scriptures we will find one thing, the Word. What is the Word? Something that is not speakable because you must remember one thing the definition of the Word is In the beginning was the Word, In the beginning. The Word was with God. The Word was God. Means this Word is God, it is not in alphabet, it is not 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D'. When we say 'G', 'o', 'd' it's not appropriate word for God. Though we may define it in three forms, 'G' for Generator, 'O' for Operator and 'D' for Destroyer. We might say this but this is not God. God is beyond this, much beyond this. The scientists have defined this power as being energy and they say energy is never created and never destroyed. This is that energy and we have to understand this energy and be one with energy. Then only can we understand, then only can we realise why we have become into this world.
At the age of eight, (click here for video) Guru Maharaj Ji was delivering the spiritual discourse of the eternal wisdom to large audiences. He was born to Param Hans Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj, the Perfect Incarnation of His time, regarded then as the Lord by millions. When Param Hans Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj left his mortal body, in spite of three elder sons, He chose the youngest and commanded him to carry out the mission of peace in this world by revealing the Perfect Knowledge within inside each human heart.
God is Love
Song: "Love is God and God is Love
Love is Truth, Truth is Peace
And our Lord can show us the Way."
Speaking to large audiences Guru Maharaj Ji declared that if anyone comes to Him with a sincere desire and a guileless heart to receive the Knowledge of Eternal Perfectness He would give them what they desired regardless of the fact of caste, creed, colour and nationality.
"Song: He's the Living lord today" If this Knowledge gives you peace, well and good, go ahead, if not, immediately leave it and go out
He then, on June 17th 1971, came to London. The first time He had ever been out of his country. He had come to the West to bring the message of great Love, Peace and Truth. Since then He has gained a following of 8 million around the world. People of all ideas, nationalities, colours, castes and creeds.
Song: He's the Living lord today
Bolie Shri Satgurudev
Maharaj Ki Jai
He's the Living lord today
And He's come down
to show us all the Way.
Bolie Shri Satgurudev Maharaj Ki Jai! Bolie Shri Satgurudev Maharaj Ki Jai! Bolie Shri Satgurudev Maharaj Ki Jai! Bolie Shri Satgurudev Maharaj Ki Jai
Well, actually there is nothing to say, … in this world, everyone, everybody thinks that you know, everyone is getting on without a, without a aim. You get up in the morning - oh people well, ??? premies get up in the morning and do meditation and so on. But people, simply just ordinary people, they get up in the morning, maybe they wash their faces, maybe they don't, they ride in their car, get to the office, return back to home, start doing something else, watch television, sit back … Then comes the weekend, they get up late in the morning, take their cars, take them into the countryside. But where are we actually proceeding? Which, what is our aim? Where have we to go? Nobody knows. They just, everyone is moving.
And it's like those sheep. When they move, and wherever one goes, the whole thing goes. And if one falls into the ditch, everyone follows him.
And when we talk talk about peace, people say, "I have got peace," because they think that aft getting sleep after three days of work is peace. When you are feeling damn hot you switch on the air conditioning, and that's peace. you know a lot of people think someone is standing for a long, long time, and he gets to sit for some reason, he thinks that's peace. Because he gets a great relaxation there, and that's what he thinks is peace. And that's why people come to me and say, "We don't need peace, we have peace." But they don't realize. But they don't understand, that's not peace: peace is something else, peace is something beyond that.
Right now, because there is not peace in people's mind, a war is taking place. As a matter of fact, there are many societies, there are many clubs who belong to this thing. They, they have guns, and they fight guns, and they make guns, and they design guns. They want war. There are factories who makes pistols and all these things; they want war. But if someone pulls a gun to them, they don't want war, they say, "Peace, brother." See? This is the thing. And when, when this will happen to people, then they will realize.
See, people were waiting for Jesus to come before. Before he came they were waiting for him as anxiously, or more, as we are waiting today. But when he came and was standing on this on this place, and people were passing by, and some said, "Oh, we believe. He's the Perfect Master," and some said, "No, he can't be Perfect Master." Because you see, so far we say, "Perfect Master is going to come." This is an intellectual thing. Because we think he isn't here, and he is going to come.
But Perfect Master is always with us. If Perfect Master is God. See, it says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word was made flesh. And the flesh was Jesus." And if it was the Word that always had existed, how could Jesus come, and how could Jesus go? He was there with them before, and He is with us now. Why are we waiting for Him? Otherwise, He is not Perfect Master; He is not God. He cannot do anything to us, or if He does, and if He is perfect, He is with us, now, in our hearts. Because He's the Word.
There was a series of testimonies by prominent followers of Rawat, including his future wife. This may be how she came to his attention.

Now I am going to say a very funny word to the world and this word sounds just very very strange to this world, but for that purpose we have all assembled here and that's "peace". You see peace in this world has become very strange for people. Peace in this universe has become a antique. It has become unique. It's like a antique thing that uh was there thousands and thousands and thousands of years ago and if now somebody sees it he says "Wow, you got a peace." This is what it is peace has become into this world, and always a Perfect Master has come into this world to reveal this Knowledge, to reveal this peace. I'm not talking about one saint, all the pictures you see. I think even more have come into this world to reveal this spiritual Knowledge, to reveal this peace that we have forgotten. And if we want to today receive and achieve this point of peace, we have to go to him who is known as Perfect Master.
Now when we say the words "Perfect Master" let me tell you this, it just sounds very strange to people, news medias, it just sounds very strange to them and one of the questions they put before me or before premies, people who have received this Knowledge, is that why do you call him Perfect Master? Why do you think he is Perfect Master? Well, according to them what they presume is that those people who say that I am Perfect Master they're trying to say that I am just very perfect. But the point is that they are not realising that what is the real meaning of Perfect Master is. Why do they call me Perfect Master?
See, if someone teaches you Maths, if someone teaches you English, if someone teaches you Science, you call him Maths master, English master, Science master, respectively. Same way, I can teach people peace. Again, I have to tell this to people, that I am not prophet, I'm not a prophet, I am just an ordinary human being with two legs, two eyes, and I work, and I voluntarily put myself here, so that I can reveal this Knowledge to people. I think because people need it, people have forgotten what this Knowledge is, and I am just teaching them perfectness and that's why they call me Perfect Master. And as a matter of fact, I am Perfect Master, because I can reveal them this peace. Not saying that I am bodily perfect, I'm not saying I am perfect because of this reason or that reason, but simply one reason because I can reveal them this Knowledge, which is perfect.
Prem Rawat's (Guru Maharaj Ji) Third World Peace Tour in New York City at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, July 28, 1973
We have all assembled here, or at least supposed to be assembled here, to listen and to talk about this strange thing. Supposedly a phenomena to the world called this peace. Everybody is looking for this, in different ways, of course. Some people think it's in money, some people think it's in the external pleasures, some people think it's in the Himalayas, some people think it's in the nature. People are looking for it in different, different ways, but really it is in one place -- right within our hearts.
Now I think that's the same exact position with the whole world today. The whole world wants peace. Everybody wants peace. Now maybe we don't call it peace, maybe we call it peace of mind. Maybe we don't call it peace of mind, we call it Knowledge. Maybe if we don't call it meet er peace, we call it God. Maybe we don't call it God, we call we call it the Word. If we don't call it the Word, maybe we call it the primordial vibration. But it all comes to one point, that we need something. And that something that everybody is looking for is peace.
Why I we have assembled here. … Now I personally I don't I don't have to say anything see I can't promise anything to you except one thing. I can't say I will do this I can't say I will I will stop stop the war in Viet Nam; I, I can't promise all these things. But I can promise you one thing. I can promise you satisfaction of mind, I can promise you peace. Cause I have a method.
Now this thing that is within inside of us, it does not mean a change of religion. You can be a Christian, still follow it; you can be a Hindu, still follow it; you can be anybody following any religion of any caste, creed, color, nationality, coming from the north or south pole, coming from underwater, overwater, underland, overland, anywhere. If you are human being, if you are human being, that's it. That's good enough for you to realize this Knowledge, for you to experience the bliss within inside of us, it's beautiful, it's fantastic.
Well, that's all I have to say about this. And next it's completely up to you.
The film ends with a scene of Rawat driving a tractor about a field (for no real purpose but to be filmed or because he was bored) and clowning around with his entourage.
