Satpal Maharaj AICC secretary
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. The `disgruntled' Uttaranchal leader, Satpal Maharaj, has been appointed an AICC secretary by the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. The appointment is being viewed as an attempt to sort out problems in the State unit and give a boost to the election campaign which was bogged down because of infighting.

Mr. Maharaj and the State unit chief, Harish Rawat, do not see eye-to-eye and the situation worsened when Mr. Maharaj threatened to resign. He was appeased when the high command assured tickets to him and seven of his supporters.
